I earned a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree in 2000 from the University at Buffalo, with a specialization in child and adolescent mental health. My undergraduate degree was completed at Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania. I graduated from both institutions magna cum laude.

I am licensed in the state of California as a licensed clinical social worker (Susan Goetz, CA license #21870). I have lived and worked in the greater Sacramento area since 2000 and have been in full-time private practice since 2008. Prior to being in private practice, my professional experience includes work in the foster care system, children’s mental health, inpatient psychiatric for adolescents, outpatient intensive program for adults, and hospital emergency department social work. My diverse experiences working with teens, adults, and families enable me to help you achieve well-being in your family or personal life.

In 2010, I completed my training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which is highly effective in work with trauma, including abuse, complicated grief, and phobias. Both teens and adults have benefited from EMDR treatment in seeing faster, longer lasting therapeutic results.

I have an office in Sacramento and an office in El Dorado Hills, as well as I provide telehealth via a secured platform. I feel well-versed in the challenges facing modern day teens and their families. I also love working with adults from all walks of life!  I think feeling comfortable with your therapist matters, and that it’s important to feel like you’re talking with a real person—not sitting in a room trying to say all the “right” things.  If you’re looking for a therapist who is warm and professional but also likes to laugh, you may have found a good match! My therapeutic work is informed by approaches including but not limited to: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Byron Katie’s “The Work”, Elaine Aron’s Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).  My offices are LGBTQ friendly and ADA compliant.
